Mark your calendars for the 2024 Theater Ensemble Arts Season, and make sure to purchase season tickets now. Work on the Bike Park South of San Juan College is expected to start this spring, with completion of the bike pump track and restrooms expected by the middle of the summer. And don't forget to partake in Durango's Peace, Love, and Snowdown this January. You're watching "The Local News Roundup," brought to you by Boon's Family Thai BBQ and Ace Hardware of Farmington. I'm Gillian Arnwine. Theater Ensemble Arts is proud to present its 26th season, featuring three plays covering the span of human emotion. In February, enjoy the murder mystery comedy "The Murder Room" by Jack Sharkey, featuring a scheming gold digger, a mysterious lover, and her unfortunate husband through a series of attempts to do away with the husband and take his fortunes. In April, John Cariani's "Almost, Maine" will take center stage, a series of nine short plays exploring love and loss in a mythical town called Almost, Maine. Close out the season with "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller, a play addressing the loss of identity and the inability to accept change within oneself and society. The show is told through a montage of memories, dreams, and confrontations, and arguments in the life of Willy Loman. Season tickets are now on sale, $37.80 for adults and $31.50 for students and seniors. Work on the Mountain Bike Park South of San Juan College's main campus is expected to commence this spring. The park improvements consist of a new pump track and bathroom facilities. The college has contracted with American Ramp Company to design the pump track, which will consist of fun and challenging track. The mountain bike park is 133 acres, and part of it has already been developed into a bike park in partnership with Farmington Area Single Track, there is still plenty more room to grow in the park. The project is funded through a part of the $7 million bond issue passed last November for San Juan College projects, and a $99,000 outdoor recreation trails plus grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department's Outdoor Recreation Division. If you're looking for a way to shake off the winter blues, head to Durango January 26th through February 4th for the 45th annual Snowdown. This year's theme is peace, love, and snowdown. The event originated in 1979 as a way to bring the community together for fun and festivities during Colorado's long winters. The week is packed with both free and ticketed events including pillow fights, karaoke, tie dying, snowdown follies, theme contests, and more. Visit the snowdown website for the full schedule.
