San Juan County has announced the details of the annual full-scale drill, which will be at San Juan College this year on October 7th. Come celebrate the history of the apple in Farmington at the Southwest Apple & Chili Fest. And Aztec Municipal Schools, Lydia Rippey Elementary School, is recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. You're watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by Boone's Family Thai Barbecue and Northern Edge Casino. I'm Haley Opsal. On October 7th, San Juan County's first responders will descend on the San Juan College campus for the annual full-scale drill. The event is an opportunity to test and improve first responders capabilities and join working in the event of a large-scale incident and is held annually around the county. This year's drill will involve members of local law enforcement, emergency medical services, and fire departments for an active shooter scenario with simulated gunfire. The campus will remain open during the drill, but some areas will be closed to public access during the exercise, including some parking lots and several buildings. There will be message boards in place to inform the public of the drill. If you have any questions or concerns about the drill, contact the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management at 505-334-7700. Did you know that Farmington's early economy was so focused on fruits, especially apples, that the local train service was dubbed The Red Apple Express? Come and celebrate the apple's legacy at the Southwest Apple & Chili Fest in historic downtown Farmington from Thursday, October 4th through Saturday, October 7th. With the fall Art Walk, chili cook-off, and the Road Apple Rally mountain bike race, there is something for everyone. Aztec Municipal Schools, Lydia Rippey Elementary School, has been named a National Blue Ribbon School this September. The Blue Ribbon Award recognizes schools for exemplary high performance, especially academic excellence, and progress in closing achievement gaps. The pre-K through third-grade school is the first school in the Aztec Municipal Schools District to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School and the fifth school to have the recognition in San Juan County. The award will be presented in a ceremony in mid-November. Learn more about these and other stories online at farmingtonlocal.news. Thank you for watching this edition of the Local News Roundup.
