Ground has been broken on the Boundless Journey Adventure Park, the all-abilities park that will be located at the site of the old Tibbetts Middle School. Phase one is officially underway, and funding for phase two has begun. Farmington Area Single Track has a variety of events still left for the summer, and signups for both youth and adult fall programs are now open. Are you looking for volunteer opportunities? Riverside Nature Center is looking for regular volunteers on Wednesdays. You're watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by Home2 Suites and Traegers Bar. I'm Connor Shrieve. On Thursday, July 11th, the City of Farmington broke ground at the former Tibbetts Middle School for the Boundless Journey Adventure Park. The eight-acre, accessible, and adaptive playground has been developed in partnership with Farmington Municipal Schools, the City of Farmington, and the Tibbetts All-Abilities Park Foundation. The park will be an evolution from the current state of land to an area designed to meet people of all abilities. From water catchment areas, textured walls and walkways, an all-wheels area, and design features meant to mimic the landscape of San Juan County. The plans outline a multi-generational community space that is, quite literally, built for everyone. The groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of phases one and two. Phase one is the renovation of the former Tibbetts Middle School Library, as well as the construction of ADA-compliant bathrooms. Phase two is the creation of park space in the middle of the existing park, and phase three includes the purchase and installation of playground equipment. The project is expected to cost a total of $13 million, and is already partially funded. Donations can be made at the Tibbetts All-Abilities Park Foundation website. The Riverside Nature Center is looking for volunteers on Wednesday mornings. Volunteers will assist with removing invasive species and general area cleanup. Work begins at the Nature Center at 8:00 AM with the work finishing at 11:00 AM or whenever it gets hot. All volunteers are asked to bring sun protection, water, and snacks. Work gloves are available to borrow, but you can also bring your own. Everything is light to moderate activity, but accommodations can be made for most ability levels. There are eight spots available per day, sign up online to participate. Farmington Area Single Track's summer isn't over yet. There are still two more races in the summer race series, one on July 18th and one on August 1st. The races take place at the San Juan College Bike Park and start at 6:30 PM. The entry fee is $10, and there are categories for ages 2 and up. Register online or in person, signups for the fall classes opened at the month's start, and there are still open spaces. Youth programs offer classes for all ages up to 18. Classes meet once a week, no training wheels are allowed, and helmets are required. There will also be beginner/intermediate mountain bike classes for adults. The classes focus on foundational skills to gain confidence, those cost $150. FAST is still looking for volunteer coaches for the youth classes. You can find out more information about volunteer needs and register for classes online.
