The city of Farmington designated 17 local nonprofits as recipients of the Community Develop Block Grant. Four Corners Economic Department also received two grants to support local development, and the Grandview Interchange is now open with traffic on US Highway 550 now rerouted from Farmington Hill. You're watching the local News Roundup, brought to you by Sunray Park and Casino and The Big Idea Maker Space at San Juan College. I'm Connor Shrieve. The city of Farmington unanimously approved a little over $200,000 in grant funding to local area nonprofits earlier this month. The funding from the Community Developed Block Grant Program. The selected nonprofits received grants ranging from 4,000 to $45,000, and the organizations range from arts and music, to homelessness and mental health support, to children and youth programs. The Four Corners Economic Department received two grants this summer for projects ranging from building and development to investing in the local energy economy. The Four Corners Economic Department received $25,000 from the New Mexico Economic Development Department to develop engineering plans for a 50,000 square foot building. The plans will include designs for utilities that can be matched for one to two clients and an expandable wall. The building will be used to house a new to San Juan County or local business. Four Core also received a $100,000 grant from the US Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management for use in defining and amplifying local competitive advantages in San Juan Counties Energy Economy. On Sunday, July 14th, the traffic on US Highway 550 shifted to the new Grandview interchange. After a delay earlier this summer. The route change closed Farmington Hill and shifted all through traffic to the interchange. CDOT is advising motorists to ensure extra time for travel as everyone gets accustomed to the new route and to pay attention to ongoing signage. The current speed limit through the area is 40 miles per hour, and the speed limit will remain in place until later this summer. The interchange includes two roundabouts, the existing Wilson Gulch roundabout to the north and the new Grandview roundabout. CDOT has some reminders for roundabout navigation. Slow down or stop before entering the roundabout. Traffic moves counterclockwise. Only make right turns for entering and exiting a roundabout. Choose a lane and stay in it until ready to exit. Signal the intended exit, while not required under Colorado State law, it is recommended and courteous. Use signs and pavement markings to help guide through the roundabout. If you miss your exit, simply drive through the roundabout again, do not stop or try to reverse. There's a video available on the CDOT Project website on roundabout travel. The website will also list any upcoming projects and final work on the project. Learn more about these and other stories online at farmingtonlocal.news.
