PNM Resources donated $30,000 in grants to local nonprofits at the start of April, giving a much-needed boost to local organizations to reduce homelessness, substance abuse, and the cycles of poverty. 29 nonprofits across the state received $10,000 each, three of which are in San Juan County. And local businesses host events and job fairs during Small Business Week, the first week of May. You're watching the Local News Network, brought to you by Traegers and CMIT Solutions. I'm Wendy Graham Settle. PNM Resources Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PNM Resources, has announced three recipients of its foundation grants in San Juan County. Childhaven Inc., Economic Council Helping Others Inc., and Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity each received $10,000 to apply to projects within the organization. The nonprofits were selected because of programs designed specifically to provide affordable housing, assistance for independence and self-sufficiency, and assistance to help break cycles of substance abuse and homelessness. Childhaven Inc. provides shelter for children, ages infants to 18, who are often coming from abusive situations as well as providing transitional assistance for youths 18 and older. The money from the grant will enable the organization to continue to provide assistance to its clientele. Economic Council Helping Others Inc. provides assistance to individuals and families, ranging from financial support to community empowerment. The PNM Resources Foundation Grant money will be used to provide up to 15 families with rent assistance for the month. Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity is the local branch of Habitat for Humanity, that provides affordable housing to local individuals. The current project in progress will receive some of the grant funding to complete a three-bedroom house for a single mom and her children.
