The Farmington Chamber of Commerce is looking for new, small stuffed animals for the My Very Own Bags of Love's Christmas, as well as blankets and throws. The Soul of Learning Institute and the LANL Foundation Early Childhood Education are offering three trainings in early January, covering a variety of topics. And Kellogg's Feeding Reading Program recently donated 500 books to Mesa Verde Elementary School. You're watching the "Local News Roundup," brought to you by Boon's Family Thai Barbecue and the Big Idea Makerspace at San Juan College. I'm Gillian Arwine. Farmington's Chamber of Commerce is collecting new, small stuffed animals for the My Very Own Bags of Love San Juan Chapter, an organization that assists children in the community who have been displaced from their homes. The stuffed animals will be going into a duffle bag with other small items, so smaller sizes are preferred to ensure everything fits. The chamber is also collecting new blankets and throws for area seniors who are homebound this holiday season. Donations can be dropped off at the San Juan College Quality Center for Business Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Soul of Learning Institute and the LANL Foundation Early Childhood Education have partnered to provide a three-part series of trainings for Northern New Mexico. Part one on January 10th will focus on interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution Part two on January 17th will look at communication skills and time management. Part three on January 31st will look at staff empowerment and equity, justice, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Each session must be registered individually so you can take the ones that are most pertinent to you. On Thursday, December 5th, the Albertson Safeway Foundation and Kellogg's donated 500 books and a surprise $20,000 check to Mesa Verde Elementary School. The books across all grade levels are part of the ongoing Kellogg's Feeding Reading program, which encourages reading and literacy. Customers can upload receipts from qualifying Kellogg's purchases to earn credits for a free book. Since the program began in 2019, over 1.9 million books have been redeemed or donated to individuals, organizations and schools like Mesa Verde Elementary School.
