San Juan County needs your help! The County is looking for input on outdoor recreation priorities as it begins work on its Outdoor Recreation Master Plan. Although summer information sessions have come to a close, you can still fill out the survey or submit a photo of you doing your favorite outdoor activities. San Juan County’s semi-annual Household Hazardous Waste event is Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the San Juan County Administrative Building in Aztec. Open to all residents of Bloomfield, Kirtland, and unincorporated SJC, the event is a chance to clean out household chemicals, batteries, and more! The County will also host two free dumpster days Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20th for all those fall projects. Come join the fun at the Tibbetts All-Ability Park Foundation's 3rd annual 2K Fun Run, Walk, and Roll event Saturday, Oct. 12! Saturday October 12th, the local Emergency Planning Committee and Office of Emergency Management host the free Hazardous Waste Collection event. Open to residents of Bloomfield, Kirtland, and unincorporated parts of San Juan County, the event will accept household chemicals, batteries, and CFL light bulbs, among other hazardous waste items, providing a safe way to dispose of waste. The San Juan County Administrative Building will accept drop-offs between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Aztec and Farmington residents can sign up for curbside pickup of hazardous waste through local waste management. Also this month, the county will have two free dumpster days, October 19th and 20th. All San Juan county transfer stations will accept normal loads for free. Find your closest transfer station and its hours online. San Juan County is looking for feedback from the community to help create its master plan for all things outdoor recreation-related. After receiving a grant earlier this year for the creation of an outdoor recreation master plan, the county hired Planned Collaborative to create a plan highlighting the unique cultural and physical landscape of the county. Provide your thoughts with the recreational inventory survey, identifying recreational needs in your community. You can also enter the photo contest by snapping a photo of your favorite trail or a local park and submitting it to mdiddy@plandcollab.com. Or uploading it to social media using the hashtag SJC Outdoors. Submit your photo by midnight October 18th to be entered into the prize drawing. Start the Halloween Fun with the Tibbitts All Ability Park Foundation's 2K Fun Run, Walk & Roll fundraiser Saturday October 12th. The fundraiser for the all-abilities park starts at 9:00 AM with a first wave taking about five laps around the old Tibbitts track, and a second wave at 10:30. Come dressed to impress in your Halloween costume for a day of fun with vendor booths, family friendly activities, a costume contest, and prizes. Registration is $15 for kids and 25 for adults.
