Join Four Corners Economic Development and the Alliance for Navajo Broadband for the Broadband Futures Conference this summer. The Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative and Desert River Guides invites you to clean up along the Animas River corridor. And with the weather warming up, San Juan County Sheriff's Office reminds you to keep your furry friends safe and cool. You're watching the "Local News Roundup," brought to you by Distil Beer, Wine, and Spirits, and Durango Motor Company. I'm Connor Shreve. Four Core and the Alliance for Navajo Broadband are hosting the Broadband Futures Conference, a day-long event on broadband planning and development efforts. The conference aims to help participants understand the effort and current progress for broadband development in San Juan County. Learn about funding opportunities, meet those responsible for planning efforts, and provide input on current efforts. The free conference is June 25th from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM at San Juan College. Register today to secure your spot. Come join the Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative and Desert River Guides for a river cleanup event along the Animas River corridor. Meet at Desert River Guides' headquarters at 9:30 AM May 19th for a morning of work, keeping the environment clean and safe. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and bring water and sun protection. The event will end around noon, with Three Rivers Brewery supplying post cleanup beverages. Desert River Guides will be running a grill for anyone who wants to bring their own grillable snacks. Now that warm weather has arrived, the Sheriff's Department reminds you of the importance of keeping your four-legged friends safe and comfortable. Make sure to provide ample shade and fresh clean water to prevent heat, stroke, and dehydration. Avoid hot surfaces like asphalt and concrete on walks. Try instead to go during cooler parts of the day, or to stick to grassy areas. Never leave pets in parked cars. Car interiors can easily reach dangerous levels even when parked in the shade or with windows cracked. If you do see a pet in a car, try to locate the owner. If you can't, make a note of the car make, model, and license plate number, and call the non-emergency number to alert authorities.
