Celebrate Women's History Month with a listening and learning tour event from the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women. San Juan County has applied for more than $500,000 in funding to expand trails at Alien Run Rec Area and Angel Peak Scenic area. The Road Over Navajo Dam will be closed for Bureau of Reclamation maintenance work, and enjoy a tribute to Hank Williams for one night only. You're watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by Three Rivers Brewery and the Big Idea Maker Space at San Juan College. I'm Connor Shreve. The New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women is hosting a listening and learning event on March 15th. The tour is a series of events around the state featuring prominent leaders from local colleges and universities and local political and tribal authorities, as well as local women business owners. One of the goals of the tour is to advance gender equality in the business landscape, and the event will offer free childcare, as well as a meal. Register now for the event at San Juan College, New Mexico Highway 539 over Navajo Dam will be closed until May 15th for maintenance by the Bureau of Reclamation Safety of Dams program. Reclamation conducts annual inspections of dams to ID potential issues. A recent increase in seepage at the dam has led to a need to do exploratory drilling to determine the cause and a potential solution. While the road is closed, traffic will be rerouted on New Mexico Highway 511 and 64. You should be prepared for delays. Information on the closure can be found on both the Bureau of Reclamation's website, as well as with NMDOT. San Juan County recently applied for more than $500,000 in funding from the Federal Recreation Trail Program. The funds are for trail expansion projects at Alien Run Recreation Area, and the Angel Peak Scenic Area. The application outlines the construction of 12 miles of new single track trails, including a six mile connector trail between the two areas. Once completed, the combined trail systems would offer 32 miles of single track biking in Aztec and Bloomfield. The acclaimed performer and musician, Jason Petty and his four piece band have brought to life the story of singer-songwriter Hank Williams in the show, "Hank and my Honky Tonk Heroes". The show coming to Farmington for one night only looks at Williams' childhood, his influences, and performers today influenced by Williams. With hits from "Your Cheating Heart" and "Hey Good Looking", the show is not one to miss. "Hank and my Honky Tonk Heroes" is at the Farmington Civic Center April 27th, buy your tickets now to not miss out. Learn more about these and other stories online at farmingtonlocal.news.
