Find the perfect holiday gift for everyone in your family - and support your local businesses at the same time. It’s a win-win for everyone! Light up the holidays with the Sycamore Park Community Center Monday, Dec. 2nd. Join in the fun with a snowball fight, countdown to lighting, and other activities for the whole family. The beloved Festival of Trees benefiting the Presbyterian Medical Serivces returns Dec. 3-7. With a variety of activities - free and ticketed - there’s bound to be something for everyone. Don’t forget to check out the trees and pick your favorite for the tree drawing on the seventh. For anyone planning on traveling out of the Durango La Plata County Airport this holiday week, be aware of the new remote parking program that is new this year for Thanksgiving Week. Annually the busiest week for the airport, a new shuttled remote parking set-up is meant to help reduce parking angst in the airport’s current lots. Make sure to leave plenty of time for your travels to accommodate finding space for parking and increased traffic overall. By Hannah Robertson. Looking for something to help get you into the winter holiday spirit? Farmington has you covered. From Small Business Saturday to the Annual Festival of Trees, there's something for everyone. And if you're planning on traveling out of the Durango-La Plata County Airport this holiday week, try out the new remote shuttle parking to reduce the stress of finding a parking space. You're watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by Distil Beer Wine Spirits, and Northern Edge Casino. I'm Sadie Smith. Celebrate local businesses this Saturday, November 30th, in downtown Farmington. Start the day off right with a cookie crawl through downtown businesses, starting at 11:00 AM, and make sure to check out the holiday window decorations. There will be a chance to vote for your favorite decoration. Don't forget to stop by the downtown arts and crafts fair between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM at the Inspired Moments Events Center. If you're a local artist, snag your free vendor spot today. Small Business Saturday was formed to promote local shops, and Farmington has so many great ones, so kickstart your holiday shopping at your favorite local shop this weekend. Sycamore Park Community Center is hosting its annual tree lighting and Christmas social Monday, December 2nd. The fun starts with a snowball fight at 5:00 PM, with refreshments and a Christmas activity to follow. The lights go on at 6:00 PM, and everyone is invited to help count down to the lighting. The event is free and open to everyone, so stop on by. The annual Festival of Trees returns this December from Tuesday 3rd to Saturday 7th. Celebrate and support the Presbyterian Medical Services. All proceeds from the event go to support local San Juan County Community Services. There are activities every day, including the mayor's reading and community tree lighting Wednesday, beginning at 5:30 PM. Find the full schedule of activities, as well as the schedule to view the trees online and pick out your favorite tree. Winners will be selected via live stream on Saturday, and the tree pickup will be Sunday, December 8th, between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Thanksgiving is the busiest period for parking at the Durango-La Plata County Airport, and the airport is expecting parking demand that will outweigh its parking lots once again this year. To offset the lack of spaces, the airport will offer remote parking with a shuttle this week until December 2nd. Travelers looking to park will be directed to the remote parking lot as they arrive to the airport, and there will be regular shuttles to and from the lot throughout the parking period. Daily rates at the remote lot will be $7 a day, $2 less than in the main lots, and there will be a shelter provided by Modstreet at the remote lot to provide shelter while waiting. Aviation director Tony Vicari noted that remote parking is a new concept for the airport, but it will be a good test to see if the concept will work for other peak demand periods. With holiday travel starting, make sure to have at least two hours between arriving at the airport and your flight departure time to accommodate time for parking, checking in, and getting through security to avoid the stress of potentially missing your flight. The team here at the Local News Network wishes you and your family a happy, fun, and safe Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you for watching this edition of the Local News Roundup. I'm Sadie Smith.
