A new endowment fund with Four Corners Economic Development and San Juan College is offering grant opportunities for local small businesses and entrepreneurs. Come hiking, with the new Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative Hike series, with three planned hikes in September, October, and November. A new endowment with Four Corners Economic Development and San Juan College is looking to empower local businesses and entrepreneurs with grants up to $1,000. Four Corners Economic Development, in partnership with San Juan College, and generous donors, has created the Dr. Daniel Fine Endowment. The endowment will offer grants of up to $1,000 that can be used to build a business plan, attend a conference, and purchase small assets, among other things. The application period is open September 1st through 30th, with awards issued in October. The Dr. Daniel Fine Endowment aims to help financially aid San Juan County entrepreneurs and small businesses with capital. Find more information at the San Juan College Foundation. The Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative has launched the ORII Hiking series. The hikes aim to help both beginner and experienced hikers get out and explore the Four Corners region. All hikes start at the Riverside Nature Center, and pre-registration is required. The cost is $40 for the public, and $30 for Farmington Museum Foundation members. On September 14th, the hike will be the Pueblo Alto Trail at Chaco Canyon. October 12th's hike will be at the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness Area, and November 16's hike will be at the Canyon of the Ancients Sand Canyon Trail. The registration links include information about the hike, what to expect, and what to bring. As of August 14th, repaving efforts on Road 6480 have moved into the third and final phase. Vehicle traffic will be closed from Troy King Road 6200 for the next five to six weeks. Work is scheduled Monday through Thursday, with some Fridays as needed. All roads will reopen every day at the end of all construction activity. Please pay attention to all closures, detours, and signs, and flaggers.
