San Juan County is studying a freight rail connection with the rest of the state. New real estate data is in, and a new trail running race will take place in June. You're watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by Distil Beer, Wine and Spirits in Northern Edge Casino. I'm your host, Ryan Simonovich. San Juan County is studying proposed construction of a freight rail that would connect the Four Corners region with U.S. Interstate 40. The Navajo Nation and Federal Railroad Administration are also part of the feasibility study that will evaluate potential routes, facilities, and environmental and economic impacts. Freight rail could spur economic activity in the region, as well as reduce truck traffic on roads and highways, according to the county. The county received a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund the study. The San Juan County Board of Realtors released updated sales data for the first two months of the year. A total of 99 residential units were sold in January and February, with a median selling price of $265,000. The listings spent a little more than 60 days on the market. The board reported 355 active listings during the period, and 152 new listings. Learn more at SanJuanCountyBoardOfRealtors.com. Registration is now open for a new trail running race in Farmington on June 7th. The Hood Mesa Trail Run offers five 9- or 15-mile course options. The race starts at Lions Wilderness Park, and uses trails in the Hood Mesa area. Discounted registration is available through May. The race is put on by Teenek Racing, who also organizes a mountain bike race in Aztec. The event is sponsored by the city of Farmington. Learn more at teenekracing.com/hoodmesatr.
