San Juan Regional Medical Center has been recognized as a family-friendly business for its efforts to support employees and their families at work and at home. San Juan County has received a $30,000 grant it plans to use to develop a trail guide of the hidden gems of gravel biking across the county. Whispering on the way, fire officials say this year's fire season outlook will be normal, although they do caution that nothing is set in stone. And come help kick off the 60th anniversary season of the Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village with the Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 30th. You're watching the "Local NEWS Roundup," brought to you by Durango Motor Company and Distil Beer Wine and Spirits. I'm Connor Shreve. Family-friendly New Mexico has awarded San Juan Regional Medical Center with its Family-Friendly Business Platinum Level Award. The award recognizes employers who provide benefits to support employees and their families, such as paid leave, flexible work schedules, community support, and more. SJRMC also received the Education Support Special Designation, also Platinum Level, in recognition of the medical center's continued dedication to providing education opportunities. Those include continuing education benefits and a tuition assistance program. San Juan County is a recipient of a $30,000 grant from the Outdoor Recreation division of the New Mexico Economic Development Department. Officials plan to use the grant to produce a guide to gravel bike trails in the county. There are thousands of miles of dirt and gravel roads established for oil and gas workers to reach sites that can be mapped for recreational use. County spokesman Devin Neeley pointed to the growing popularity of gravel biking and said that San Juan County is uniquely equipped to explore this resource as a result of existing infrastructure. The grant has a one-year timeline, so the county is looking to hire a firm to produce the guide, which is anticipated to take five or six months to complete. The guide is another way the county is looking to highlight gravel biking opportunities in San Juan County and will be available both online and in printed form. Officials hope the guide will create an inventory of out and back half and full day rides from Central locations like Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield, and Kirtland. San Juan County's Fire Outlook is currently looking like a typical fire season, although officials warn that could change quickly. San Juan County has seen close to its normal precipitation this year, and the snow pack in the San Juan Mountains is only slightly lower than usual, meaning conditions do not currently point to a particularly dry spring. However, even with moisture in the forecast, fire officials are advising caution and would like to remind residents to take care when burning slash piles or recreating outdoors. Remember, you must have a burn permit to burn slash piles, which are issued by San Juan County Fire and Rescue. Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village is hosting an old-fashioned Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 30th. Register online for the free event, which features an Easter egg hunt for kids aged two to eight. There will also be face painting, balloon art crafts, and the chance to take a picture with the Easter Bunny. Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, so make sure to be on the lookout for upcoming anniversary events.
