Aztec Chamber of Commerce is looking for local businesses to highlight on its website and social media. And the city of Farmington recently received a grant to improve Orchard Plaza. You're watching the "Local News Roundup", brought to you by Pop's Truck and RV Center and Home 2 Suites. I'm Gillian Arwine. Join the city of Farmington and ORII for community screening of "In the Dirt" at the Totah Theater, Saturday January 6th. The film is a documentary about Native American cyclists who bring the sport of mountain biking to the Navajo Nation when no bike shops existed. Since 2018, the grassroots native led effort has built a cycling culture that is the fastest growing recreational sport in the Navajo nation today. The cast and crew will join for a special Q&A after the screening. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the film begins at 7:00 PM. The Aztec Chamber of Commerce is looking for Aztec businesses to showcase on its website and Facebook page. The chamber will showcase one to two businesses a month, and businesses will be selected via a blind draw. To be selected, fill out the form provided by the chamber secretary and submit three photos of your business. Email Greta Quintana for the form and any questions. Businesses must be a Chamber member to participate. The city of Farmington has received a $50,000 grant from the New Mexico Main Street program towards improvements at the Orchard Plaza. The park located at the corner of Main Street and Orchard Avenue is a popular downtown location for public events, including the Maker's Market and the TGIF Summer Concert Series. Improvements may include aspects like improving accessibility for the gazebo and improving the open space in the center of the park. The city will begin by hiring a consultant to see how to best utilize the funds for the park, and there will be opportunities for public comment as the project progresses.
