The dog days of summer are officially here, bringing with it hot and dry days. So make sure you're aware of fire restrictions and safety. The Farmington Growers market has received a $12,000 grant, which will go towards the new pavilion project. As the weather heats up heading into July, so are burn restrictions. As of June 28th, San Juan County Fire and Rescue have prohibited all open burning until there is significant moisture improvement. Open burning includes burning cropland, rangeland, prescribed burning fields, debris burning, slash piles and weed burning. As of June 30th, recreational fires and fire pits, charcoal grills and wooden coal stoves are permitted, but be aware that may change depending on weather conditions. Make sure to pay attention to fire danger, red flag warnings, and additional regulations, as those may shift on a daily basis. The City of Farmington is a recipient of a $12,000 grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department for the Farmington Growers Market. The grant, the second of its kind Farmington has received, will be used to extend fiber optic lines from the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park to the site of the pavilion, just east of the building to create wireless access points. Increased wireless access will make it easier for market vendors and customers to conduct cashless transactions at the market. The pavilion itself, a proposed 2,500 to 3000 square foot covered space, is funded by a $300,000 grant from the Gold King Mine Settlement Fund. The covered space will be used to accommodate market vendors and special events. Come enjoy an evening of live music at the Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village, Saturday, July 15th from 3 to 5:00 PM. The event, hosted by Painted Pianos and Friends, showcases local musicians, Lawrence Nass and Cottonwood, featuring Connie Branham and Audra Alexander. Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village's summer hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
