The City of Aztec received a grant to develop a master plan for trail and park development and Lake Nighthorse in Durango, Colorado opens March 31st. The Northwest New Mexico Growers Market Alliance is offering a vendor training and retreat Saturday March 25th from 9:00AM to 2:00PM at San Juan College. Events will include season planning for the 2023 farmer's market season, food safety and product labeling, SNAP WIC program training, pre-market meetings and board elections, and more. Participants will complete all requirements for vending at all San Juan County markets in 2023 and early access to vendor applications. Register by clicking on the link in the video description. The Northwest New Mexico Growers Market Alliance was founded in 2020 as an organizational umbrella for seven regional growers markets in San Juan County. The goal is to increase coordination among the markets to build strength, efficiency and sustainability within the market programs. The city of Aztec secured an outdoor recreation trails grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department of almost $40,000 to develop a master plan to guide the development of city parks, trails, open space and recreation departments for the next 20 years. City officials plan to emphasize development on the Animas corridor and an enhanced trail system around the city. There will be a public meeting for Aztec residents to provide input. Those meetings will be scheduled after the City of Aztec hires a firm for the project development, likely happening later this year. Lake Nighthorse recreational area in Durango will open for the summer season on March 31st. The lake will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00AM to 4:00PM for non-motorized recreation beginning May 12th through May 31st. The lake will be open daily from 8:00AM to 6:00PM with motorized recreation beginning May 15th. Beginning June 1st through September 4th, the lake will be open daily from 7:00AM to 7:00PM with the lifeguarded swim beach and the Wibit Aqua Park opening June 1st conditions permitting. Beginning this year the Wibit Aqua Park is available through a reservation system. There will be four daily sessions. Each session will be an hour and 45 minutes long. There is a $5 fee per person per session with a total of 60 individuals per session. Wibit life jackets are included with the fee. The new system is designed to better address individual safety and fun on the Wibit Aqua Park as well as reduce wear and tear on the equipment to preserve it for years to come.
