Everyone should have a healthy, affordable place to call home. Unfortunately, that's not always the case. Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity builds homes for families in San Juan County who could not otherwise afford one. You're watching the Local News Network, brought to you by CMIT Solutions and Pop's Truck and RV. I'm Hayley Opsal. Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity recently held its second annual fundraiser on Main Street in Farmington.

Today we're doing a car show and arts and crafts festival to raise money for the 14th home we'll be building here in San Juan County. We're going to be opening the application period probably sometime in October or early November. And then the house will actually be built in early 2023.

About 40 vintage vehicle owners showed up for the Cars and Canvases Show in September. Local Stewart Blackhawk showed off his 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

It's modified with air suspension. It's got chrome suspension. All the hardware, bolts, everything's been chromed. Interiors all done up. Everything's engraved, chromed inside door jams. Yeah, pretty much everything has been redone on this car.

20 or so artists line the street with their wares.

So now that the generation is coming back and saying, you know, we're taking our culture back, we're taking this back, we're learning more, it's coming out. And that gave me the courage to produce the work that I'm doing now. I mean, I'm almost 45, so it's been a long time in a making.

Tyler said she hoped the event would raise two or $3,000.

You know, we're so grateful that we can be of service here in San Juan County and you know, we will be building some more handicap ramps this fall. We have several people on the list and doing other maintenance repair type projects while we're gearing up for the next new house.

Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity has a Re-store in Farmington, which sells reusable, surplus building materials, furniture and appliances to the public. It's located at 1915 East Murray Drive.
