The nonprofit, Four Corners Writers has curated an anthology of standout regional writing. Titled "Four Corners Voices." The collection will be available this December. You're watching the "Local News Network" brought to you by Big O Tires and Hospice of Montezuma. I'm Sadie Smith. Four Corners Writers held its inaugural kickoff event on Wednesday, November 13th at the Cortez Public Library. The event featured writers selected for the upcoming anthology, the winner of the art contest for the anthology cover, as well as releasing the upcoming publication details.
So tonight we, it was a kickoff event for a, our first volume, the inaugural anthology of local writing. It's called "Four Corners Voices." It came about because we received the grant from the LOR Foundation and from the City of Cortez 81321 Launch program. And using those funds, we formally incorporated. So now, Four Corners Writers is a 501c3 charity. And in addition to our monthly workshops, we're now doing this anthology, which will be in bookstores in December.
The anthology is a collection from writers across the Four Corners region. Out of 150 submissions received 49 were selected for publishing.
We were looking for, we knew we were going to publish a combination of essays, short stories, and poetry. Due to space limitations. We predetermined, we were going to choose 12 short stories, 13 essays, and 24 poems. When they appear in the anthology, they'll be shuffled together.
Many of the pieces seek to capture the essence of life in the Four Corners.
The sense of the anthology will be local places, local people, local things.
This anthology offers local writers the opportunity to see their work published and sold in bookstores.
The mission statement of Four Corners Writers is to identify, develop, and promote literary voices in the American Southwest.
The anthology is the first step in getting those voices out in the world and will hopefully be the first of several anthologies. With a target publication date of December 10th. "Four Corners Voices" makes the perfect holiday gift for readers. Pick up a copy at Maria's Bookshop in Durango or Zu Gallery in Cortez.
