The New Mexico Hospital Association recognized San Juan College as a 2023 recipient of the commitment to Community Health award. The award honors community organizations that work in partnership with New Mexico Hospitals to strengthen the wellbeing of health and their communities. The award celebrates the historic partnership between San Juan College and San Juan Regional Medical Center, beginning in the 1960s with the San Juan College Nursing Partnership. In the 1970s, the partnership became an associate degree nursing program, and in 2015, San Juan College, San Juan Regional Medical Center, the University of New Mexico, and the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium partnered to offer a Bachelor of Science in nursing. The college was nominated for the award by San Juan Regional Medical Center and the two have committed to another 50 years of partnering to bring educated and trained nurses to the Four Corners region. At a September City Council meeting, Albuquerque-based planning firm, Pland Cooperative, presented plans for the first two phases of the Boundless All Abilities Park. Located at the site of the old Tibbits Middle School, the plans showed an evolution from the current state of land to an area designed to meet people of all abilities from water catchment areas, textured walls and walkways and all wheels area and design features meant to mimic the landscape of San Juan County. The plans outline a multi-general community space that is quite literally built for everyone. The current estimated cost for the park is $13 million dollars, of which $2 million has already been secured for the renovation of the Tibbits Middle School library building. The only remaining structure. Phases one and two will cost $8 million of which $4.7 million has already been raised. There are plans for grant funding and additional fundraising efforts once the library renovation begins. The Enterprise Center at San Juan College is one of four $50,000 grant recipients from across the state of New Mexico designed to help facilities invest in new technology and providing new training opportunities. The Enterprise Center, part of the Quality Center for Business, offers business incubator spaces, accelerator programs, office and manufacturing space, and other resources for business. The grant will provide much needed funds to update technology and provide additional training and workshops with local experts for individuals wanting to start their own business.
